The commission approved the minutes of October 6, 2011.
Old Business
Lauralyn stressed the need for year end closure to the OPC. George and Lauralyn will
work together to revise George’s review of the OPC meetings report and will present
it to the first selectman when the election is over.
Sue read Maureen’s submitted update:
- Maureen wrote a letter to the Roger‘s Lake Authority encouraging them to install a centrifugal storm drain at Epsilon Ave. /Roger’s Lake Trail.
- Burn-out dock has been removed.
- OL Public Works is scheduled to excavate this month.
- Riparian mats owned by Roger’s Lake Authority have been retrieved, dried
and stored.
Linda shared her idea of the possibility of getting next years master gardener students
to intern on the Haines Park project in the spring. Sue reported that divers have been
removing fan wort.
Sue read Maureen’s submitted update. The three grant applications have been
submitted. The Eastern Conn. Resource Conservation & Development Area has
turned us down for funding of the banner. The DeLuca Foundation and the L/OL
Educational Foundation are considering our applications. The commission members
agreed that any future grant applications will have to have a more thorough review
process as there was clearly some miscommunication that took place on the Conn.
Con. application. Members discussed the possibility of the funding for the
sign at Roger’s Lake coming from the STEEP grant.
- Increasing Awareness Regarding Pesticides
Members voted on the four possible designs. The vote was unanimous for
banner number four.
Members made one final change to the brochure and agreed it was complete
and ready for public viewing. There was questioning by one member as to
whether the flyer met the guidelines for submitting to the District 18 website.
Members unanimously agreed that because it is an educational flyer, it does
meet the guidelines and will be submitted.
- Old Lyme Events Submission (November 4, 2011 – 4th Qtr. Issue
It was decided that the flyer will be submitted for this issue.
Michael and Maureen have agreed to be co-liaisons on this project. The grant
application was submitted November 1st.
Lauralyn reported that she is scheduled to represent the commission at this
event. Michael was scheduled to work this as well, but may have a timing
conflict. Sue agreed to take Michael’s spot.
The meeting adjourned at 8:50pm.
Lauralyn Lewis, Secretary
